Making Your Website Accessible

Website Accessibility Guidelines

Reaching Different Users

Many visitors to your website will view it in different ways. So to be able to reach these visitors websites should be designed accessible. Possible visitors:

  • May not be able to see, hear, move, or may not be able to process some types of information easily or at all.
  • May have difficulty reading or comprehending text.
  • May not have or be able to use a keyboard or mouse.
  • May have a text-only screen, a small screen, or a slow Internet connection.
  • May not speak or understand fluently the language in which the document is written.
  • May be in a situation where their eyes, ears, or hands are busy or interfered with (e.g., driving to work, working in a loud environment, etc.).
  • May have an early version of a browser, a different browser entirely, a voice browser, or a different operating system.

By using accessibility standards and web standards together we can produce a website that allows many more users to be able to use it.

Web Content Accessibility Guidelines

The websites we design follow the W3C's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. These guidelines are divided into Priority levels 1 to 3. When we design your website you can decide to meet level 2 or 3. This will ensure that you get the greatest benefit from your website being accessible.

  • Double A Conformance means all Priority 1 and 2 checkpoints are satisfied.
  • Triple A Conformance means all Priority 1, 2 and 3 checkpoints are satisfied.

Double A and Triple A compliance is reached through automated testing.
